Your personal inflation rate is the spend-share-weighted average of official category inflation: the sum of (share × category YoY). India's headline CPI for May 2026 is 3.93% (MOSPI provisional release, base year 2024 = 100, released 12-Jun-2026), but category inflation runs from 0.30% for phone, internet and OTT to 18.46% for gold, jewellery and personal care. Rural inflation is 4.25%, urban 3.53%, and food (CFPI) 4.78%.
Notable outliers inside those averages: silver jewellery at 155.23% and tomato at 48.43% year on year.
A live preset, “My real basket”, is published automatically from the author's own locally categorised spending when available. Only category shares are published, never amounts.
